Temperature control system for thermal treatment of polimer structures

Heat treatment of the polymers is considered one of the most effective methods of modification to widen their applications. Heat treatment of the polymers improves their mechanical and tribological properties. This effect is a result of crystal phase increase in the polymer structure, where the elastic part of polymer viscoelasticity increases causing significant increase in compressive strength and heat conductivity. The physical and mechanical properties of polymers are considerably affected by the degree of crystallization, which can be controlled by the change of cooling rate during the production process. In case of high quality processing, we can be sure that we get more stable material. High quality processing can be done with precise control of temperature in the oven. This paper deals with a design and implementation of control system that can control required temperature parameters for thermal treatment of polymer structures. The proposed system is based on Arduino microcontroller, which allows the whole system have simple software and hardware, to be cheap and have compact size. We also use temperature sensor for monitoring temperature and relay to control external circuit. The system is programmed with Matlab and Simulink. The software code is designed in Simulink using block schemes, which makes it easier for the user to control the system.
