ANNOTATION Chiatura and its ecological problems have always been the subject of discussion from the beginning of the exploitation of ore deposits of manganese to the present day. Urgency - Local population being under the influence of manganese extraction and mining enterprises in Chiatura is facing a very difficult ecological condition that threatens human health and the environment. Manganese is one of the most common chemical elements in the earth comprising about 0.1% of the cortex. It is one of the most important bioelements included in human and animal organisms. The manganese is widely applied in metallurgy, chemical industry, medicine and many other fields, so the demand for it is great. As manganese is a subject of high interest, to study the ecological crisis caused by its mining activities and to eradicate it as far as possible has become the most urgent. In the context of scientific-technical progress, the global industry spanned almost all geographical sphere. Along with endogenous and exogenous forces containing Earth's surface, the third powerful, anthropogenic (man-made) factor has appeared, the effect of its revealing exceeds the natural forces. In our case, Chiatura with its ecological conditions is in the complicated geological situation in the result of anthropogenic interference. The purpose of the research - in Chiatura the environment , the soil and directly the city center, where the ore is mined and processed and polluted by the wastewater of the river, are polluted,. All these must be eliminated in the nearest future. It is necessary to carry out the effective local nature and soil protection measures to prevent ecological cataclysms. Research methodology - The region's research included field practice in Chiatura, in the gorge of the river Kvirila, direct observations on the degradation factors caused in the environment and the river ravine.
